As a child, one of my favorite summertime pleasures was collecting flower petals, leaves, and sticks and arranging them into pretty patterns in the shaded dirt under my mother’s lilac bushes. Those moments of playful creativity gave me so much joy, and I took great pride in creating the perfect designs, which I called my ‘petal paintings’. Now my medium is predominately oil paint, but I still feel that exuberant playfulness while painting and my imagery still reflects the organic nature and improvisation of my childhood petal paintings.
